Security Analysis of Physical Uncloneable Functions

چکیده
We propose a general theoretical framework to analyze the security of Physical Uncloneable Functions (PUFs). We apply the framework to Optical PUFs. In particular we present a derivation, based on the physics governing multiple scattering processes, of the number of independent challengeresponse pairs supported by a PUF. We find that the number of independent challenge-response pairs is proportional to the square of the thickness of the PUF, and inversely proportional to the wavelength of the laser and to the scattering length in the PUF. We compare our results to those of Pappu and show that they are compatible in the case where the density of scatterers becomes very high.

متن کاملRobust Key Extraction from Physical Uncloneable Functions
Physical Uncloneable Functions (PUFs) can be used as a cost-e ective means to store key material in an uncloneable way. Due to the fact that the key material is obtained by performing measurements on a physical system, noise is inevitably present in each readout. In this paper we present a number of methods that improve the robustness of bit-string extraction from noisy PUF measurements in gene...
متن کاملOn-Chip Electric Waves: An Analog Circuit Approach to Physical Uncloneable Functions
This paper proposes the use of Cellular Non-Linear Networks (CNNs) as physical uncloneable functions (PUFs). We argue that analog circuits offer higher security than existing digital PUFs and that the CNN paradigm allows us to build large, unclonable, and scalable analog PUFs, which still show a stable and repeatable input–output behavior. CNNs are dynamical arrays of locally-interconected cell...
متن کاملPhysically Uncloneable Functions in the Universal Composition Framework
Recently, there have been numerous works about hardware-assisted cryptographic protocols, either improving previous constructions in terms of efficiency, or in terms of security. In particular, many suggestions use Canetti’s universal composition (UC) framework to model hardware tokens and to derive schemes with strong security guarantees in the UC framework. Here, we augment this approach by c...
